Delaney: Chicago, Illinois
Beauty: a combination of qualities, such as shape, color, or form, that pleases the aesthetic senses, especially the sight.
Beauty has a definition. All words do. However, it's definition is not necessarily it's only meaning. Beauty can be determined by how much you respect someone. It can be attained simply by familiarity - the more you see it, the more you like it. Beauty can be gained and it can be lost. It can be a source of joy and of sadness or loss. It can be an obsession and cause people to go too far, losing their own. However, I think at its core beauty is one in the same with that other ambiguous word: love.
Beauty boils down to your love for whatever it is you are studying, whether it is your family, your friends, your home, your city, your partner, or yourself. If you love something or someone deeply enough, you see their beauty.
What I love about taking pictures of people, especially old friends, is that I get to show them what people who love them so dearly see. I get to show them how radiant their laugh is and how much more beautiful they are than they ever knew. And just so, Delaney shed her light upon Chicago on the dreariest of days.
